BRADFORD Town boss Paul Shanley is still reeling from the ‘mind-blowing’ decision to abandon his side’s game with Winterbourne United last night with just 12 minutes left to play.

Bradford were in complete control as they led 6-0 against ten-man Winterbourne, with Sam Jordan and Twaine Plummer having netted braces whilst Joe Stradling and Craig Gingell were also on target, but the referee opted to call a halt to proceedings at Trowbridge Road due to the encroaching fog.

A frustrated Shanley says that both sets of players were content to allow the match to finish and that his club must now play the waiting game to see if their efforts on Wednesday will count for nothing.

“The referee said that it was because his linesmen couldn’t see through the fog but it was no worse than what it was like at half-time. When you stood in the middle of the pitch, you could see both goals and both linesmen,” said the Bradford manager.

“It’s was mind-blowing. I’d understand if he’d thought the weather was going to get worse and he’d said it at half-time.

“My players had put in an awful lot of effort and people had paid to watch - we could have gone up to fourth in the league with the win.

“There was no nastiness in the game, even though they’d had a player sent off for a two-footed tackle, and their players even said just play the last 12 minutes.

“We’re in the dark at the moment and we’ve just got to wait and see what the league do about it.”

Last weekend, Plummer and Martin Johnson got the goals as Bradford beat Odd Down 2-1.
