A LATE winner by substitute Rich Evans gave Faringdon Town a turnaround victory in this evenly contested Division One match.

In as early as the third minute, both teams had identical opportunities and outcomes.

Dan Oyston was played clean through for Faringdon, but Phil Gregory won the 50-50 ball to clear his lines and almost immediately Ashley Seamark was put clean through for Drayton, but Ryan Curtis also deflected the 50-50 ball behind for a corner.

Soon after, Faringdon could have taken the lead when Mark Simpkins played a low ball through the middle for Oyston but his shot was well saved.

Liam Humphries delivered the ball to the edge of the area from where Martin Gatehouse powered a header against the Drayton crossbar.

On 13 minutes Seamark delivered a great in-swinging cross from the right flank that resulted in Paul Hulme glancing a header into his own net.

Drayton could have, and maybe should have extended their lead during the first half.

Faringdon made them pay for their lack of first half goals equalising as early as the fifth minute of the second period.

Herrington received the ball on the edge of the area and quickly flicked it into the path of Dan Oyston running into the area who calmly slotted it beyond the reach of Gregory and into the net.

Evans grabbed the winner for Faringdon as he reached the ball at the same time as Gregory and saw it spin behind the keeper enabling him to pass it into an empty net.

Faringdon Town Reserves and fellow second division side Sutton Courtenay needed extra time to settle their Berks and Buck Junior Cup tie after drawing 1-1 after 90 minutes.

Faringdon then went on the rampage to win 5-2.

Faringdon Town ‘A’ beat Division Four bottom side Steventon Reserves 4-0 with Sam Long grabbing a hat-trick and Robert Owen scoring the fourth.
