SWINDON Supermarine manager Dave Webb admits it is down to him to lift the club out of the lowest position they have been during his two-and-a-half years at the Webb’s Wood Stadium.

The South Marston side sit in 14th place in Southern League Division One South and West ahead tomorrow’s clash with Wimborne Town.

While Webb is aware that he is in unfamiliar territory, he is not about to hit the panic button yet.

“During my time at the club we have never been in the position that we are at the moment,” he said.

“It is up to everyone to get ourselves out of the situation we find ourselves in.

“It is down to the players on the pitch, but ultimately, the bucks stops with me - I pick the side.

“The league is so tight and a couple of wins and we are where we should be.

“We can still get in a position where I expected us to be by Christmas.”

Webb was hoping that last night’s training session would bring him some good news.

The Marine chief is still without Bradley Gray, now Marcus Schuster has joined him on the sidelines with a foot problem, while Sam Morris is unavailable and Joe Shepherd is serving the last of his three match ban.

So Webb is lookng to Harry Etheridge, Mark Flanagan and Luke Abrahart pass late fitness tests.

“We could be in a reasonable position or we could be in a bad one,” the Marine boss said before training.

“I’m hopeful that both Harry and Mark will be fit for the weekend and Luke is possibly 50-50.”

Webb is also hoping that his players can bounce back from their FA Trophy exit last Saturday when they lost 2-1 to Fleet Town.

“That was a game that we should have won,” he said. “We played some of the best football we had played all season.

“But when we are dominating sides we have to learn how to kill teams off.

“I’m happy with the group of players I have got, but we have to beat teams like Fleet.

“I wanted a run in the trophy, not only for the prestige of being in the competition, but also the revenue it can generate a club like ours.”

Meanwhile in the Premier Division, Chippenham Town will be looking to bounce back from Tuesday night’s 2-1 home defeat to Redditch United when they head to Arlesey Town.

However, Mark Collier will be without striker Alan Griffith as he has had knee surgery.

Cirencester Town are aiming to put their Red Insure Cup exit behind them when they travel to Corby Town.
