THE Avon Valley Runners’ trio of Ruth Barnes, Fiona Price and Jackie Rockcliffe have created a significant piece of history for the club, writes KEVIN FAHEY.

Competing at the British Masters Half Marathon Championships in Salisbury last weekend the squad won team gold in the 35-44 age group – which is the first national title ever won by the club.

“Our aim was to win the team event as we have never done that before so it is brilliant to be British champions,” said Fiona.

“We have done well individually before but this is our first team success and it was very exciting to be part of that historic win.”

It proved to be a highly successful day for the AVR squad as Barnes also picked up individual gold in the W35 age group and Rockliffe struck won gold in the W40 category.

Not to be out-done Price was runner-up in the W45 category.

In the men’s race Tim Lowrie fought a hard race to win silver in the M35 category.

JONATHAN Kermode recorded his 19th first place in the latest Southwick Country Parkrun, with a time of 18.09.

Second place went to Dominic Beddis of Avon Valley Runners in 18.17 with junior teammate Max Davis recording his second top three finish in two weeks in third in 18.32.
