PURTON players delivered their manager Justin Miller the perfect birthday present as they completed a 2-1 win over North Leigh United.

North Leigh sit third in the league but Miller’s team completed their second win of the season over the hosts this season.

It looked like it wasn’t going to be their day in the first half when they hit the post and had a goal disallowed before the break.

The deadlock was broken in the second half through Ben Carter before Jerome Dobson made it 2-0 with five minutes to go.

North Leigh got a goal back a minute from time from the penalty spot but the home side did enough to see the game out and claim all three points.

“We started thinking, what with the run of results we had had, it was going to be one of those days.

“After playing top and second in the league last week, we were unlucky not to get anything from the game, and this week we continued that performance.

“We had a few players drop out so we were back to the walls going into the game but a couple of players came in who haven’t really been involved and have done really well.

“We got what we deserved and we are starting to see that we are gelling a little bit and we are fighting for each other, which is good to see.

“We tell the boys that if you work as hard as anyone we have a chance of beating anyone in the league.

“The boys have set the standards the last two games, so they have to keep that up now.

“It was a massive win for us; if we had lost we would have lost six games.

“We’ve played a lot of the top teams. We have played seven of the top eight teams, so now we have got a run of games of teams below us and teams we would expect to get points from.”
