WOOTTON Bassett came back from a goal down to win 2-1 against Milton United on Saturday.

Paul Braithwaite’s side bounced back from a 3-0 defeat to Oxford City Nomads the week before with a convincing performance over the Oxfordshire side.

Bassett dominated the first half but found themselves a goal behind when Milton scored via a dubious off-side decision.

The home-side did not panic though and kept to their style of football and were rewarded when Henry Traas pulled things level in the second half before James Skinner claimed all three points.

“We were on top I felt regarding possession and our work off the ball was much better than what the visiting team,” said Braithwaite.

“Unfortunately we half fell asleep in the middle of the park and they managed to play a decent through ball to the Milton striker to run through in the 42nd minute and that was a bit of a sucker punch.

“We were pretty happy at half time despite being 1-0 down. We knew if we played how we play we could beat them, it was just being patient and not trying to chase the game too much.

“Second half we carried on working harder than they did and we reaped the benefits in the end to get the 2-1 result so it was decent really.

“The players are up for it 90 per cent of every game we play and they’d seen the way they had played in the first half and were disappointed to be down 1-0 but they knew themselves and they were buoyant and probably didn’t want half time to come because we were all over them.

“Every point that we pick up is important at the end of the day, we have to scrap and fight for our lives.

“We’re not lucky to have star studded names that people bound around in the local area, we’ve got a decent group of lads, every single one of them knows what is expected of them, they all want to do it, every single player gives 100 per cent and we can’t ask any more from a club.”
