HIGHWORTH Town suffered back-to-back defeats for the first time this season as they lost to a last minute goal from Thame United.

Highworth had looked to have claimed a point from the game when they scored in the last minute of normal time after Sam Wadieh was able to head home a cross from Dan Drewett.

Rather than hold out for the draw though the Worthians went for the win and were punished when Thame broke on the counter-attack with Dan West and gained a penalty for the hosts which he was able to convert.

The visitors had taken the lead in the game shortly after the break when Callum Parsons was found in the box by Ryan King and the striker fired the ball home.

A superb free-kick from Dan Jones and a goal from Shannon Jesson were enough to seal the win for the hosts and inflict a fourth defeat on Highworth to put a dent in their title hopes.

“We didn’t play well but I think a draw would have been a fair result,” said Fisher.

“We got a free-kick towards the end of the game and their goal keeper was able to return the ball back down-field to catch us on the counter.

“The referee didn’t even give the penalty, it was the lines-man, but I thought it was a penalty and would have wanted it if it was against me.

“That is two defeats on the bounce. I say at the beginning of the year that if you want to challenge for the title you can only lose six games and we have already lost four so it doesn’t give us a lot of tolerance going forward.

“There was a gale force wind blowing on Saturday and I think we did a lot better in the second half against the wind then we did with it in the first.

“We have got to get back to winning ways otherwise we are going to be left a drift of the leading pack.”
