WOOTTON Bassett Town got back to winning ways in the Hellenic League Premier Division as they put Reading Town to the sword tonight.

Paul Braithwaite’s men, who had suffered defeat in their last two outings going in to Wednesday night’s clash at the Corinium Stadium, fell behind with 12 minutes on the clock as Carl Davies put Reading in front.

But Bassett levelled the scores through Dan Bailey before the Reading goalkeeper turned the ball into his own net six minutes before the break to hand the hosts a 2-1 half-time lead.

Bailey’s long-range effort deflected in off Steve Yeadley’s back ten minutes into the second period before winger Tyler Sheppard set up Nathan Gambling, who drove home Bassett’s fourth of the evening in off the crossbar.

Elsewhere, Sam Collier’s Shrivenham were unable to build on their shock victory over high-flying Ascot United last weekend as they were beaten 3-0 by Binfield at Barrington Park.

The visitors’ Josh Howell struck in the first half to put Shrivvy behind before Jemel Johnson and Ian Davies, from the penalty spot after Adam Dickens was brought down, wrapped things up.
