AT THE third time of asking Freshford United got to complete their Somerset Junior Cup third round clash with Yeovil & District League high flyers Somerton FC.

The first meeting of the teams three weeks ago was abandoned with just six minutes remaining, due to an injury to United’s Mark Gerrish, with the rescheduled match postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Freshford, who were 2-1 down when the original tie was brought to an abrupt end, made the most of their second chance as they came from behind to beat their guests 4-1 to book a quarter-final trip to Bath & North Somerset District League side AFC Brislington.

Freshford made the worst possible start when Somerton took the lead.

They battled back and drew level through Tom Rooney. Waleed Bakali put Freshford in front and Steve Roddy gave Chris Birleson’s side a 3-1 half time lead.

Knowing that Somerton would throw everything at them in the second half as they looked for a way back into the tie, Freshford were at their best as they kept their guests out before finally booking their in the last eight courtesy of Gavin Eyre’s goal which completed a well-deserved 4-1 win.
