Swindon Spitfires Under 16s played their first ever game in Somerset looking to continue their 100 per cent record in the league against Frome.

There was an inconsistent start to the game from both sides as they struggled to get going.

A break down the wing saw Chiarna Deller whip in a low cross which Poppy Cotterill controlled before slotting home to make it 1-0 for the Spitfires.

The visitors made it 2-0 within a few minutes when Serenn Sanghera intercepted a goal kick and quickly found Megan Ricketts up front who, in a flash, found Cotterill to score her second.

Frome then had a ten minute spell when they managed to have a few counter attacks and also break down Spitfires dominant midfield play, but no opportunities were created for the home side.

Spitfires closed out the half in fine style with three goals in ten minutes.

Dani Granato made it 3-0 when she latched onto a Staines pass and finish with a shot into the corner.

Chiarna Deller made it four after being played in by Kat Reynolds, while Granato added her second to make it 5-0.

Spits started the second half in control but were failing to set up clear chances and were in danger of being frustrated until Granato picked out Jade Staines on an overlap and she ran on to score her first goal for the Spitfires with a 20-yard shot into the bottom right hand corner.

This inspired Frome and the next ten minutes saw them have their first clear attempt on goal but Chloe Mason stood up to the shot and held it well.

Amy Connaghan then hit the inside of the post twice, once after rounding the goalkeeper, and another with a fierce shot outside the area.

Connaghan then got on the scoresheet with another 20 yard shot which evaded the right hand post to make it 7-0.

Spitfires then clicked into gear and the team helped to create three goals for Deller to take her tally to four for the game.

All three goals were identical having picked up passes from Serenn Sanghera and Charley Reynolds twice, she cut in from the left wing and drilled home all three shots calmly.

Spitfires came close to making it 11 goals but for another fine save from the Frome right hand post.

The only other game of the weekend saw the U12s maintain their lead at the top of the table with a 6-0 win at Derry Hill.
