CHIPPENHAM'S ten-try demolition of Reading kept them in control of affairs at the top of South West One East.

Reading opened the scoring with a penalty but a shuddering Sam Saunders tackle paved the way for the ball to travel through several pairs of hands and send Oscar Ryan over for the home side’s opening try, which Saunders converted.

Reading added a second penalty but Riccio’s dancing feet took him through for the second score, Saunders again adding the extras.

Wityh scrum-half Lewis Surry giving his opposite number a torrid time, he stole the ball and started an attack that saw Riccio break, then offload superbly to Chris Chrome, who did likewise to send Ryan Surry across for the third converted try.

Scrum-half Surry and Ryan then combined to send Bobby Lyons forward, two huge hand-offs and a turn of pace taking him to the line, with Saunders converting the bonus-point score.

Skipper Frazer Clilverd’s audacious flick pass then sent Ryan over for his second, with Saunders landing a touchline conversion.

Reading got their first try, which was converted, after half time and a second followed after an interception on halfway.

But scrum-half Surry settled any home worries by sprinting in from 20 metres before dummying his way over for the seventh try, Saunders adding the extras.

Riccio’s fine kick and a lineout steal then allowed hooker John Turner to burrow over for a score and, despite a brief Reading revival, replacement wing Stephen Barber outpaced the defence to touch down.

The emphatic victory was wrapped up as Surry jinked his way through to score his hat-trick try under the posts, Saunders rounding things off with another conversion.
