SCRUM-HALF Connal Knott hopes this weekend’s enforced break does not derail Swindon’s form in South West 1 East.

Swindon’s 33-18 success away at struggling Buckingham last Saturday was their eighth victory in 11 league games this term, a run that sees them inside the top four in the table.

The bonus-point success ensured Swindon achieved coach Sean Lynn’s target of ten league points in November and, with no fixtures scheduled in the division on Saturday, they will now get a well-deserved rest.

Knott, however, says Swindon would rather get back straight on the pitch as they build towards the big Wiltshire derby against Chippenham at the start of December.

“When we sat down as a squad Sean told us that ten points is what he wanted from us this month. We’ve got that, so we’re pretty pleased,” said Knott.

“None of us really want a break now because we felt like we put a good shift in on Saturday and want to carry that on. When you don’t play for a week you lose that continuity and momentum.

“We had a week off before the Bletchley game last weekend and although we were able to beat them we didn’t really play that well.

“But we’ll still train twice this week before having a day off on Saturday, so we hopefully won’t lose any ground before we come back for what’s a massive game against Chippenham.”

Knott claimed the pick of Swindon’s five tries against Buckingham – racing away to the line following a tap-and-go penalty from halfway.

Buckingham have been badly out of form so far this season but the scrum-half says Swindon take nothing for granted when they go on their travels.

“It was a good win, especially away from home. It doesn’t matter where you are in the league, any team is difficult to beat on their own ground,” said Knott.

“The game was well contested but I think we were the better team. We played well and deserved to come away with the win.

“Against Bletchley, I think we played more as individuals but it was a real team performance on Saturday.”
