RESILIENT Trowbridge came within a whisker of pulling off a major shock with a powerful performance against a strong Windsor side.

The visitors were quick to adapt to the muddy conditions in a tight first half that saw both sides testing each other’s defences.

Windsor opened the scoring after 35 minutes when Trowbridge went offside at the break down and full back Chris Laidler converted a 30 metre penalty.

But the visitors responded, resulting in wing man James Macfarlane making a powerful break to send man of the match Shai Bonnick in with the final pass.

Lloyd Davis converted and the second period started much as the first ended with both sides’ defences under pressure.

Rhys Davies broke through to touch down for the home side, Laidler adding the extra two points giving Windsor a 10-7 advantage but the hosts were caught offside at a set scrum, Davis levelling the scores.

The powerful Windsor backs attacked the Trowbridge line but the defence held firm until an overlap out wide sent in centre Neil Baggett, Laidler again adding the extras.

Windsor went further in front with a score from their other centre Patrick Birch, Laidler missing the conversion.

But the try of the match went to youngster Bonnick, who broke through two tackles to run in and score from 60 metres.
