ASHUR Morrison is looking forward to taking the reins at his ‘second home’ Corsham after being named the club’s new captain.

The 25-year-old has spent five years with the Station Road outfit, who ply their trade in the top tier of the West of England Premier League, and steps in to replace Pete Dennett, who has left the country to work abroad.

Morrison has also played for Wiltshire since 2011 and was part of the county side that won the Unicorns Championship Western Division last season.

He came through the youth system at Bristol West Indians (BWI) and says that the groundwork for his captaincy began last term.

“I knew that Pete would be moving to Germany for his new job about a quarter of the way through last season,” said Morrison.

“I think that it was between me and Steve Bullen but when Pete came to me and asked if I’d want to do it, I said yes. He made me vice-captain for last year and they let me captain the last three games last season, which I think was a brilliant idea.

“It’s something that’s always been an ambition of mine. I would have loved to be captain at BWI but I’ve been at Corsham for five years and it’s my second home.

“I’m actually the second-oldest, which shows you just how young the team is here, but we’ve got a team of talented young guys and I’m looking forward to next season.”

Corsham have set about improving their squad for next summer, bringing Nick Harrison back to the club following his release by Worcestershire at the end of last season.

The 22-year-old seamer had an injury-blighted 2014 and only made three first-class appearances. Wiltshire opener Henry Langford, from Brockhampton, and Army opener Ian Dixon will also come in.
