CHRIS Birleson’s Freshford United strolled into their first Briken Motors & AM Print and Copy-sponsored A&B Cup final in 13 years after an 8-1 victory at Bobbin Lane, Westwood, ended the cup dreams of third division FC Box Steam Brewery.

Freshford will meet Holt FC in April’s final, Steve Roddy being the Brewery Boys’ tormentor-in-chief as he netted five of his team's eight goals.

Chris Foley set him up for the opener before a brilliant dribble and pass from Dave Percival found Roddy to score his and Freshford’s second.

A long clearance from keeper Adam Sheppard picked out Roddy and when he found the net to claim his hat-trick, the match was over as a contest. Tom Rooney added a fourth before half time from another Percival assist.

Percival, who had set up two of the first-half goals then got on the scoresheet himself with goals five and six following good work from Roddy and Ricky Trott.

Roddy made it 7-0 when he scored from the penalty spot after Percival had been fouled and Roddy capped a superb day in front of goal with his fifth and Freshford’s eighth of the afternoon, Matt Lay providing the assist on this occasion.

Jason Povey scored a late consolation for the Brewery Boys who now have the battle for the third division title to concentrate on.

Freshford, who are already in the final of the Wiltshire Junior Cup, has a Knockout Cup semi-final to look forward too as they chase an unprecedented four trophies in one season.
