FROME Town notched up a crucial three points away from home with their biggest victory of the season so far last weekend.

Adrian Foster’s men romped to a 4-0 triumph at Dunstable Town to move to within a point of 19th-placed Histon in the Evo-Stik League Southern Premier Division table.

A slight change in personnel and formation certainly did the trick for the Robins as manager Foster moved Anthony Tonkin to centre-half, with the returning Dylan Bonella slotting back in at left-back.

This allowed Rhys Baggridge to move forward into midfield and there was also a welcome return to action for striker Ben Thomson after a long spell out through injury.

The Robins started brightly and took the lead in the fifth minute as Matt Smith let fly from 25 yards and, with the aid of a slight deflection, fired the ball past the keeper.

Dunstable’s Adam Watkins found himself in space two minutes later but a superb block from the flailing leg of Jack Vallis prevented any goal scoring opportunity.

The advantage was doubled for Frome in the 22nd minute as a patient build-up eventually saw Smith fire a ball down the right wing.

Mark Cooper won a challenge in the air and after shrugging off a challenge, sent a shot into the net at the near post.

A superb defensive header by Tonkins, clearing off his own goal-line from a left-wing cross, kept the two-goal advantage at the break.

After the half-time interval, the Robins came out looking to extend their lead and after Jon Vance controlled well on the edge of the area, he set up Lewis Haldane, whose shot flew just past the post with keeper Charlie May well beaten.

May was lucky to remain on the pitch on 50 minutes as a dangerous two footed lunge on Vance outside the area went unpunished by the match referee but the loose ball was picked up by Thomson on the right touchline.

He stepped inside and curled an exquisite effort towards the empty net, which was too high for the defender rushing back but it struck the bar.

But the third goal arrived two minutes later as Frome burst forward and Cooper found himself in the unusual role as being the furthest forward and unleashed a cool shot that beat May comfortably.

The visitors netted their fourth as a Vance free-kick wasn't punched far enough by May and Smith was on hand to volley home from 15 yards through the crowded area.

A rampant Frome continued to search for more goals and Cooper almost completed his hat-trick as he burst forward and his powerful shot flew inches over the bar while Ricky Hulbert also went close with a header from a Vance corner that was cleared off the line by David Lynn.

With 20 minutes left, Terry Dixon found himself in space on the edge of the area for the hosts and his low shot beat Darren Chitty but not the post , and eight minutes later, the same player found the exact same part of the post with an identical effort which landed back in the hands of Chitty.

In the closing stages, Chitty was determined to keep the Robins’ first clean sheet on their travels this season and pulled off a stunning save to deny Gary Wharton, arching his back and tipping over superbly at full stretch.
