WARMINSTER gave their chances of beating the drop in Dorset & Wilts One South another timely boost with victory over fellow strugglers Ivel Barbarians last weekend.

The Folly Lane men are now up to tenth after a hard-fought 18-10 win over Ivel Barbarians, which saw them leapfrog their Yeovil-based opponents.

The away side took an early lead from a penalty when Warminster infringed, but the Amber and Blues hit back almost immediately by scoring the first try.

A catch and drive from a lineout ended with number eight Dean Priestman breaking off the back to score.

Jason Sprangle fired over a penalty before Warminster added a second try, with Connor McPherson making an excellent final pass to winger James Pinnell, who finished with style in the corner to make it 10-3.

The hosts had Lewis Noble sin-binned for shoving an opponent but the reduction in numbers made no difference as scrum-half Sprangle pounced on a loose ball down the left side and showed good pace to sprint down the touchline.

A covering tackle saw him stopped just short of the line but winger Pinnell was on hand to take a pass and go over in the corner for another unconverted score.

Ivel had the better of the conditions in the second period and they used the breeze to good effect, pinning Warminster back time and time again inside their 22.

It took the visitors full 25 minutes of solid pressure before they scored their only try from the side of a ruck.
