THE BIGGEST challenge for the new-look Swindon Robins line-up might well fall at the feet of the two reserves, Charles Wright and Lewis Rose.

Whilst the Robins’ other new riders - Gregorz Zengota, Adrian Miedzinski and Kyle Howarth - can all draw on a degree of experience and previous seasons riding for Swindon, Wright and Rose cannot.

However, Robins boss Alun Rossiter said after drafting the pair back in November that he was much more satisfied with his two picks than the previous year - and with good reason.

Wright impressed guesting in the Elite League last season, including an appearance for the Robins, and Rose was going well for King’s Lynn before getting injured.

For Wright, this year is about establishing himself in the sport having decided to give up his job on a building site and commit full-time to speedway.

“I only did the guest thing last year in the Fast Track, but I’ve gone to full time and given up my job, because I feel like I can progress in the sport,” the 26-year-old said.

“While I’m in young I want to give it a go and I feel like I can improve, so that’s the way I’ve gone.

“I’m feeling good, I’ve put a lot of money into my equipment this year and I'm looking forward to it.

“It’s a big commitment financially, I’m always looking for more sponsorship because without them I wouldn’t be able to ride.

“I have put a lot on myself this year and hopefully it pays off.”

Wright is at least familiar to Robins heat leader Nick Morris, with whom he rides for Somerset Rebels in the Premier League. It is that partnership and the proximity of the two clubs that made Blunsdon an ideal destination for Wright when he entered the draft last year.

Rose picked up a knee injury riding for Newcastle Diamonds at Glasgow, which curtailed his season last year, but now the 25-year-old is relishing the new campaign.

“I’m looking forward to getting out on the track now,” he said “It’s a bit daunting, because I don’t know a couple of the riders, like Batchelor and the Poles, but I’m looking forward to getting to know them.

“I was at King’s Lynn last year and I thought I’d be at King’s Lynn again, being an asset there, but I found out where I was riding on Twitter, then five minutes later I had a call from Rosco (Rossiter).”
