FORMER Kingdown School pupil Rob Bunce was embarking on his first race of the 2015 Classe Figaro Bénéteau season – the 196 mile Solo Basse Normandie - today.

The 20 year old Artemis Offshore Academy squad member will spend two tactical nights at sea, navigating his way around the Channel Islands before arriving in Cherbourg – Octeville on Sunday.

Bunce said: “I’m feel pretty good about the race but there’s a mixture of emotions.

“I’m very excited to get racing against the other boats.

“i think the most we’ve raced against so far in training is 10, so 15 more will definitely be exciting, especially as there will be some more rookies.’’ The Artemis Offshore Academy is the UK’s only training school for solo offshore sailors and Bunce earned his place at a gruelling selection trial last year.

BRADFORD on Avon Sailing Club concluded their 2014 season with their annual presentation evening and dinner.
