HIGHWORTH Town made it eight points in as many days as they continued their packed end-of-season schedule with a 2-0 success over Kidlington in their final home game of the campaign.

The success of John Fisher’s men in the FA Vase this term, in which they progressed all the way to the semi-finals, has seen them forced to play catch-up in the league.

They played Saturday, Monday, Thursday, Saturday last week, collecting two wins and two draws in that period, and now have just one league game remaining away at Ardley United on Tuesday night.

Town assistant boss Kev Moloney is delighted with their current form after bouncing back from the agony of missing out on a dream appearance at Wembley.

“It was a good result. We played well all the way through,” said Moloney.

“Kidlington are fourth in the league and are a good side, so for us to win so comfortably was very pleasing, especially after having such a busy week.

“We knew we still had a lot of games to play but we asked the lads to try and get to the end of the season without losing again and they’ve done that so far.

“That’s a great run and it’s a great show of character.”

Dan Drewett was Highworth’s hero on Saturday, finding the net in each half at the Elms.

Drewett made the most of a rare appearance up front for Highworth, partnering skipper TJ Bohane in attack in the absence of Callum Parsons.

Moloney added: “We started the better in the first half and Dan gave us the lead with a beauty of a goal. From there we were pretty comfortable and Dan was able to get the second in the second half.

“Dan has been in and out a bit with injuries this season but that seems to have settled down now.

“He plays out wide most of the time but when we are a bit short he goes up front. That gives him a bit more license to attack people and he seemed to relish that by scoring a couple of goals.

“He did well and had a really good game. We’re really pleased for him.”

Second-from-bottom Shrivenham had a miserable time in their final home game of the season as they were thrashed 11-0 by champions Flackwell Heath.

Shrivenham held out for 22 minutes before Joey Blunt broke the deadlock, however, Gavin James doubled the lead two minutes later. Dan Rapley and Barrcarra Jarra were also on target before James got his second to make it 5-0 at the break.

Jarra kicked things off in the second period before James fired home from the penalty spot to complete his hat-trick.

There was no let up from Flackwell right until the final whistle, as further goals from Dan Burrell (two), James and Blunt added extra gloss to the scoreline.
