CORSHAM Town chief Trevor Rawlings wants to see his side bring the curtain down on their campaign with a win at Wellington.

Corsham were bested 1-0 by the Tangerines at the Southbank last weekend but Rawlings’ men have the chance for immediate revenge when they make the trip south to Somerset for their final Toolstation League First Division outing of the season.

Adam Devine had the hosts’ best chance of the game but a goal from Sam Towler settled matters and when the two teams renew hostilities this Saturday, boss Rawlings is hoping his troops can sign off on a high.

“It was a bit of an end-of-season game, just like the last few have been, and there weren’t many chances,” said the Corsham manager.

“We had a few chances – Keiron Gleed had a couple, Levi Cox had a couple – and the keeper made a marvellous save from Adam Devine but then they got their goal and were happy to sit back and let us attack.

“It was disappointing to lose our last home game but we can try and get revenge on Saturday and that’s what we want to try and do.

“It’s the last game of the season, so hopefully we can go there with a good side, take a minibus and have a bit of a jolly on the way back with a few beers.

“But hopefully, that’s after winning the game.”

Corsham are set to finish in the top ten of the First Division and Rawlings thinks that is par for the course after a season blighted by injuries and inconsistency in team selection.

He said: “If I’d had the team I had at the start of the season for all of it, there’s no doubt we’d be higher in the league than we are.

“But we’ve had a lot of injuries, with players that have been out for the season, and we’ve had no choice but to put younger lads in.

“I know that I bleat on about it but we’ve got no money to go out and replace those players with the same quality, so it’s been about going into the reserves or finding someone who isn’t getting a game where they are.

“I feel sorry for the players that have always been committed because they’ve had to turn up to play in a different side every week but considering how it’s been, things could have been a lot worse.

“Most games that we’ve lost have been by the odd goal, so we’ve not been too far away this season.”
