HIGHWORTH Town chief John Fisher will make a decision on whether he will stay on at the Elms next season following next week’s Wiltshire Senior Cup final.

Fisher took over as Highworth chief for a second time in 2012 but this season could be his last at the club.

Although the Worthians have hardly set the world alight in the Premier Division this term – they currently sit seventh ahead of tonight’s final game away at Ardley – Fisher has led them to new heights in the FA Vase and they agonisingly missed out on a dream appearance at Wembley.

Highworth progressed further than they ever have done in the national competition, eventually being knocked out in a two-legged semi-final against Northern League outfit North Shields.

Fisher told the Adver he is considering his future but will not give a definite verdict until after their last game of the campaign – next Wednesday’s cup final against Toolstation Premier Division side Bradford Town at Hardenhuish Park in Chippenham.

“I’ve had a meeting with the chairman to talk about it but I haven’t made a firm decision yet,” said Fisher.

“The players want to know but it’s still up in the air at the moment. I’ll decide after the Wiltshire Cup final next week.

“When you’ve been doing it as long as I have, it’s hard to stay as up for it and I do find midweek games hard now.

“When you get in from work on a Tuesday and it’s cold and dark and you’ve got to go to all the way to somewhere like Ascot, it’s not really what you want to be doing.

“I’ve had a fantastic time here and if we’d got to the Vase final it would have been a great way to go out but we’ll just have to see.”

Fisher says he will not pick his team tonight with next week’s final in mind and will be naming as strong XI as possible in the hope of bagging another three points.

Ardley finished as runners-up last season but are way down in eighth this term, and Fisher is keen for a victory that would see Highworth climb at least one place and guarantee a top-six finish.

“It will be a full-strength team as long as no one is injured. We won’t be resting anyone, I’ll worry about the cup final next week,” added Fisher.

“Usually, Ardley are in the top two or three but I think they’ve struggled for players this season.

“I think the manager went in goal the other week, and he’s 50-odd. That’s like me going in goal and I think you’re better off just going with 10.

“If I’d been asked to do that I’d say stuff it, I’m off.”
