SINCE the season has got underway, we haven’t been able to bat out our 50 overs and that is something that has to change.

There have been times where we have been missing three, four or even five overs, and batting out those overs is essential.

We have got to take responsibility and approach the game a little bit more circumspect and we need someone to go on and post a big score.

So far this season, we have played five games and won three but we haven’t been overly consistent.

It is not something that we hide behind but we have had a couple of injuries to key players bowling-wise.

Tahir Afridi has not been available so far, although he should be back for Sunday’s game at Cornwall. He has been suffering with a side strain since he came back from New Zealand.

Jake Roberts has also been missing with a side strain but it is doesn’t look like he will be fit for the weekend.

We have been struggling to find that balance in our opening attack but Nick Harrison has come back to us and has done pretty well.

His second spell in particular has been good. He has to find the right line and length.

On the batting side of things, we have brought in Luke De Souza and he has already got three hundreds to his name this season.

The fielding was particularly impressive last weekend against Dorset. Harrison made a great diving stop on the boundary, then threw the ball in 70 metres over the top of the stumps to run out Chris Jones and there was another great run out by Ed Kilbee to dismiss Masoor Khan.

This Saturday will see the guys play their first league matches for their clubs and after that, they will get in the car for three hours to travel down to Launceston before heading down to St Austell on the Sunday morning.

It is going to be another tough trophy game and the aim is to return home with those two points.

We don’t start our Championship season until the first week of June. We begin the campaign with a trip to Dorset and Dean Park.

While we haven’t really started to look who will feature in those games yet, we will wait to see who is performing. We are unsure of what to expect from Dean Park as they have a new groundsman.

Right now, we have to focus on getting out this group and improving our consistency.
