MELKSHAM Town boss Darren Perrin has vowed that his team will throw everything into turning their well-wishers’ dreams into reality when they attempt to carve their name on the Toolstation League Premier Division trophy.

After their goalless draw at nearest rivals Buckland Athletic last weekend, Melksham could clinch the Premier Division crown for their first time in their history with victory at Willand Rovers this Saturday or if second-placed Buckland slip up at home to Slimbridge.

The tough trip to Willand will be Melksham’s final game of a sensational season where the Conigre outfit have only been beaten six times and manager Perrin is hoping to give something back to the people that have backed his troops to the hilt.

“I said last week that the game against Buckland was the biggest in Melksham Town football club’s history but this has now surpassed it,” said Perrin.

“We have the chance to do something for the first time in the club’s history. I want to try and do it for people like the chairman (Dave Wiltshire), my dad (Mick Perrin), who has had an association with the club for over 50 years, and the players themselves, who have been fantastic.

“We’ve had great support from the local community. We’ve even had Michelle Donelan, who’s the local Conservative party candidate, behind us too.

“We’ve already booked coaches for fans on Saturday. What will be, will be and if we don’t do it, it won’t be for lack of trying. My players will give everything.

“Willand are a very good side with a very good manager (Scott Rogers), who is also a very good player.

“But if you ask any manager in the league if they’d like to be in this position – win your last game of the season and you win the Western League Premier Division – they’d love to be in it.”

Should Melksham not get the job done on Saturday, the fate of the title could be decided when local rivals Bradford Town visit Buckland’s Homers Heath ground on Bank Holiday Monday (kick-off 3pm).

Perrin added: “I’m sure that Slimbridge and Bradford will be doing everything to win against Buckland for the integrity of their clubs and the integrity of the league.”
