BRAD Dial was on call to help Lechlade to their second win of the campaign as his unbeaten 154 was enough to secure a 16-run win for the home side.

Having been beaten by Potterne the previous week, Lechlade were looking to return to winning ways against Shapwick & Polden, who are yet to win a match this season.

Overseas player Dial was the man of the match as, for the second time in three games, he scored an unbeaten 150 plus score.

His first came in the opening game of the season as he hit an unbeaten 164 against Cheltenham and the South African, who signed last summer after guiding his country to victory in the U19s World Cup, says that he is enjoying his game.

“I am just finding a way to score runs and whatever I am doing is working for me at the moment and hopefully my form continues,” said Dial.

“It is quite important because someone has got to get a big score if you want to put a good total on the board.

“If it is not the other players then I have got to come through for the boys - that is why I am the overseas player.

“You do feel pressure, but because I played last year I don’t have anything to prove so it is a lot easier this season with that.

“It took me a while to get off the mark and I just needed to adjust to the pitch.

“The pitch was a lot better than last week and we were able to bat better.

“It took a bit more time before we started to score runs but we picked it up at the back end, really.”

Shapwick won the toss and put the hosts into bat at the Manor Ground and despite the loss of Sam Burdock (9) early on, Miles Hammond (51) and Brad Dial were able to set a good foundation before the loss of Hammond with the score at 85.

Dial was in fine form, though, and with the help of skipper Joe Breet (16), Benny Ellis (56) and Paul Godding (11*). he was able to see the hosts to a big target of 311.

On what was a good batting wicket. Shapwick made a good start in reply as openers Nayan Karmarkar (23) and Sam Edmunds (42) made a first-wicket stand of 76.

However, wickets began to fall on a regular basis as the visitors fell short of their target as they were bowled out for 295 with just one ball remaining.
