WANBOROUGH’S Louise Hunt played a starring role as Great Britain got off to a winning start in the women’s World Group at the BNP Paribas World Team Cup in Antalya, Turkey, today.

Hunt beat Australia’s Janel Manns 6-0, 6-1 and later paired up with Lucy Shuker to win the doubles rubber 6-0, 6-1 against Sarah Calati and Luba Josevski, as Great Britain secured a 3-0 win over Australia in the first of two round-robin pool ties.

Great Britain are fourth seeds in Antalya and will now face the USA in their remaining contest in Pool D, with the winner of the group going forward to the semi-finals later in the week.

British number three Hunt has been selected by the Tennis Foundation for her 11th World Team Cup, which are often referred to as the Davis and Fed Cups of wheelchair tennis.

Hunt and fellow London 2012 Paralympians Shuker and Jordanne Whiley have won a series of silver and bronze medals in the women’s event since 2009 and have been runners-up to the Netherlands in each of the last two years.

“I'm so excited to be in Antalya again for another World Team Cup and delighted to get an early win under my belt in singles and doubles,” said Hunt.

“It’s such a great venue for the event and always makes the atmosphere so much more special. We've had a couple of successful years in a row now and we hope that this year will be our best yet.”
