ROYAL Wootton Bassett made it four wins from four at the start of the Division One season with an emphatic 10-wicket rout of bottom side Beanacre & Melksham.

Bassett are now 18 points clear at the head of the table and skipper Darren Beasant admits he could not have asked for more at the start of the season.

“We felt we had a difficult start to the year with the fixtures we had so we are delighted with how the first four weeks have gone.” said Beasant.

“Sometimes you win games you maybe don’t deserve to but we have played some excellent cricket right the way through.”

Winning the toss, Bassett were soon in control as wickets fell at regular intervals.

Beanacre’s 105 all out off 42 overs was solely down to the disciplined bowling of all the Bassett attack, led by Asanka Vithange’s haul of 4-24 Prolific openers Sam Lawro (46*) and Jack Twine (48*) looked untroubled throughout and saw Bassett to their target inside 21 overs.

Lacock were 40-run winners at Nationwide House. An impressive haul of 3-26 from Joe Perkins helped restrict Lacock to 192-9 in their innings, for which Adam Mitchell’s 48 was the backbone.

Nationwide never got going in reply as although Nick Clarke provided stubborn resistance for his 46, the home side were only on 152-9 once their 45 overs came to a close.

Division 2

OWEN Sheppard’s 62 helped Collingbourne to a first victory of the season as they beat hosts Spye Park by six wickets.

Park posted 198-6, Ed Whatley scoring 50 as Billy Brett took 3-48 and Jon Candler grabbed a couple.

Captain Owen Sheppard, who hit a half-century, took the reply on, Craig Watts (23), Imdad Haque (32*) and Will Eden (38*) helping to wrap up the win..

Mike Evans thumped 81 and claimed three wickets to help Wroughton Wranglers to a 38-run victory over Heytesbury & Sutton Veny.

Mark McMeeking also chipped in with 49 as Wranglers posted 208-7, which could have been a lot higher had it not been for R Barnes’ 5-38.

Barnes also hit a half-century in Heytesbury’s reply but Evans’ 3-32 helped skittle them all out for 170.

Swindon NALGO were thrashed by 102 runs when they entertained Avebury despite Kapildev Kesavan claiming 7-51 to restrict Avebury to 160 all out, Wes Hartslief top scoring on 68.

However, NALGO were skittled for 58 in the 23rd over thanks to the efforts of Hartslief (4-25) and Dominic Fry (3-13).

Division 3

BEEHIVE stung Seagry in dramatic fashion, edging to a slender 10-run success at home.

Mike Spong (20), James Hall (33) formed the backbone of Beehive's 154-9, Mike Hunt with 4-34.

Seagry were 99-4 off 31 overs to put them in the driving seat but Gary Collins came into the attack and swung the game, picking up a wicket with his third ball and eventually finishing with 4-20.

Seagry still had an outside chance of victory but a run-out ended their chase 10 runs short.

Division 4

BEANACRE & Melksham 2nd were three-wicket winners at Swindon B.

Beanacre's bowlers produced a disciplined performance, especially youngster Dominic Shearn (5-31) on his senior debut, backed up by Tim Carpenter (4-47) as Swindon closed on 123 all out.

Beanacre were reduced to 90-7 but stuck at the task and an excellent 17 not out from Abi Footner saw them home.

Division 5

RYAN Merryweather's 5-48 inspired Chippenham 3rd to a three-wicket triumph at home to Nationwide 2nd.

That haul helped restrict the visitors to 216 all out but Chippenham always had a fight on their hands in the reply.

However, Will Thomas hit two sixes off the last two balls of the match to win the game for his side, finishing unbeaten on 80 as Rob Humphrys added 58.

Division 6

MIKE Reeves’ unbeaten 45 helped get Beehive 2nd back to winning ways with a five-wicket triumph over their Lacock counterparts.
