DANNY Talbot surrendered his British 200m title to new boy Zharnel Hughes, but the Trowbridge Tornado posted a season's best time in tonight's final in Birmingham.

Anguillan 19-year-old Hughes, dubbed the new Usain Bolt, was recently cleared to race for Britain and he took the 200m title in 20.42.

Hughes, who trains alongside Bolt in Jamaica, did not look as smooth as in Friday's heat, but had the strength down the home straight to pull away from Talbot and insisted afterwards he was taking it easy and only running at "85 per cent".

"I've been running 20 flat in training so I definitely know I can go sub 20," said Hughes, whose personal best is 20.15 and whose performance secured his place at this year's world championships in China.

On the prospect of competing for Great Britain in Beijing, he added: "I've been longing to run in a uniform that says a country on it, so to represent GB, I'll go out there and give it my best."

Talbot's 20.61 was outside the world qualifying mark at 20.50 seconds but was still a promising performance.
