WILTSHIRE took the honours on day one of their Unicorns Championship Western Division clash away at Cornwall after bowling the home side out for 246.

Heavy early rain reduced the day’s play, with the players not taking to the field until 1.30pm, but captain Michael Coles will be more than satisfied with his troops’ effort.

Cornwall won the toss and elected to bat at Grampound Road but had just 19 runs on the board when Tahir Afridi (3-67) claimed the first wicket of the day.

Further wickets came at regular intervals for the visitors, with Neil Curnow (59) the only Cornwall player to make a half-century, while Joe King led the WIltshire attack with a haul of 4-78.

That left Wiltshire opening pair Ed Kilbee and Uzair Qureshi with 30 minutes to negotiate before the close and they were largely untroubled as they reached 23-0 at stumps.

Play resumed at 10.30am this morning.
