DANNY Talbot gave the British selectors an emphatic message that he deserves to be on the plane to the World Championships in Beijing as he broke his personal best in Lucerne on Tuesday.

The Trowbridge Tornado was under pressure to run inside the qualifying standard of 20.50 seconds after finishing runner-up in the trials with a season’s best of 20.61.

Talbot shrugged off that pressure to not only run under the qualifying mark but also shave 0.06 seconds off his 2014 personal best with a time of 20.30 for third place in the B race to lift him to second in the UK Rankings behind trials winner Zharnel Hughes.

“Danny is really please with that and his fate is in his own hands now,” said coach Dan Cossins. “He needs to run under 20.50seconds again and if he does that then he will definitely be going to Beijing.”

The pair are now looking at the Loughborough EAP meeting on Saturday or competing on a new super fast track in Waterford, Ireland, next Tuesday.

Cossins added: “He definitely needs to run the time again because if he doesn’t then I think the selection panel will view that negatively."
