COACH Luke Sellars wants Lechlade’s lowly league position to be taken with a pinch of salt.

The Manor Ground outfit have won just five of their 13 fixtures so far this summer and find themselves third-from-bottom in the table, 11 points above the relegation zone.

However, this season is Lechlade’s first in the second tier of the West of England Premier League having been crowned champions of the Glos/Wilts Division last term.

Sellars, therefore believes that if skipper Joe Breet and his troops can beat the drop 2015 can be marked down as another successful campaign.

“We are disappointed with where we are in the table but we have to take it in the proper context and this is still the highest level the club has ever played at,” said Sellars, whose side were beaten by 16 runs at home by Goatacre last weekend, despite getting themselves into a winning position in their run chase.

“We know there is a restructure coming and if we can still be in the second tier next year that will be an achievement in itself.

“We have got a squad capable of doing better than they have done at times this year.

“That was a game we should have won last Saturday but they are all winnable games and we have to be positive as we have got five games left to get as many points as we can.”

Lechlade are looking to find some form when they travel to fourth-placed Thornbury this weekend.

Sam Summerfield was the difference between the two sides when they met back in May as his unbeaten century led the Thorns to a six-wicket success, a result Sellars is keen to put right.

“We know where we went wrong against them earlier in the season,” added Sellars.

“We dropped Sam four times and he went on to make a century, that’s what lost us the game.

“The top two in the table both lost at the weekend so we know that everyone is beatable.”
