SWINDON Robins’ Nick Morris has said he got a chill when he heard the extent of Darcy Ward’s injuries.

Fellow Aussie and good friend off the track, Morris heard the news of Ward’s accident when he was returning from a meeting with Premier League side Glasgow Tigers.

A meeting where the 21-year-old had come off his bike himself after clipping the air fence while leading heat six.

Morris has been in contact with Ward’s mechanic to send the 23-year-old his best wishes, but he knows that Ward has a lot of rehab ahead of him.

“We’re battling on; it is just tragic what has happened,” said Morris.

“We’re all feeling it and we are feeling really sorry for him and we’re hoping he will be alright.

“I was flying back from Glasgow and I was reading what had happened, then later I had another little look and I read that he had no lower body feeling and I just got goosebumps.

“I have spoken to his mechanic and through him I have been wishing him well and hoping for the best.

“He has got a long road ahead, but hopefully we can get a miracle out of it.”

Morris will be part of the Swindon side who take on Leicester Lions this evening, alongside fellow Aussies Troy Batchelor, Aaron Summers and Rob Branford.

Swindon’s number three knows that finding the motivation tonight will be tough but knows that Ward would not want them to do any less than win.

“It makes it hard. I don’t even feel like riding,” added Nick.

“I know when I get to the track I will give it my best shot, but it is hard when you have got one of your best mates who can’t feel their legs.

“We have just got to remember that Darcy would want us to go out there and give it our best.

“We have just got to go and win and dedicate it to him.

“We will battle on and give it our best shot for him.”
