BRADFORD Town boss Paul Shanley was pleased to see his team banish the spectre of their ‘unacceptable’ second-half capitulation at Bristol Manor Farm with victory over Welton Rovers on Wednesday night.

Despite heading in to half-time goalless on Saturday, Shanley’s men were thrashed 5-0, leaving the manager less than impressed.

But they bounced back to winning ways at the first attempt as they beat Welton 4-2, Mike Jones and Neikell Plummer netting in the first-half and Tyson Pollard and Mike Rimmer in the second.

“We were after a reaction from the players because Saturday was something that was unacceptable and the players were made aware won’t be accepted again,” said Shanley.

“It was abysmal. We were the better side in the first half and when we conceded a couple of early goals in the second half, a number of players gave up.

“Hopefully it’s a lesson for the players that you have to work hard at this level. We wanted to draw a line under it and we did that against Welton.

“We scored twice in the first half and could have taken a few more chances and it was the same in the second half.

“They got a fortunate penalty but we were always in control of the game and that’s how we have to play going forward.”

Bradford Town take on Wessex League Christchurch in the preliminary round of the FA Cup this weekend with the right to travel to Southern League Hungerford Town in the first qualifying round on September 12 on the line.
