SWINDON Supermarine manager Dave Webb says the return of Ashley Edenborough is a statement of what the club are trying to do this season.

As the Webb’s Wood Stadium side head to Sholing this evening for their FA Cup preliminary round tie, the hot-shot striker will be back in Marine colours after rejoining from Southern League Division One South and West rivals Evesham United.

The Swindon-based hitman left the South Marston club last summer to link up with Worcestershire outfit Evesham, but Webb is delighted to have him back.

“I’m really pleased he is back,” Webb said. “Players make a decision of where they want to be and Ash has seen what we are trying to do this year and beyond and wants to be a part of that.

“To have a player of his quality and proven goalscoring ability for us is great. It adds to the competition we already have here.

“For the club to make the decision to get him back too is a big statement.”

Edenborough said that it was an easy decision to return to the club.

“We (Evesham) played them a couple of weeks ago and Supermarine then put in seven days, but Evesham waived it,” Edenborough said.

“As soon as I knew Supermarine wanted me back I made my mind up, I can’t wait to get started.”

With Edenborough back in the fold, Webb is looking forward to getting this season’s cup trail going.

And tonight’s hosts Sholing were plying their trade in the same division as Marine last term.

However, the Boatmen withdrew from the league last term and are back in the Sydenhams Wessex League just 12 months on from winning the title.

“The FA Cup is very important, not just because of the money side of things,” Webb said.

“We have had good start to the season. Apart from the one loss, which I was disappointed with, we are where we want to be.

“If we win this then we have a home match in the next round against Winchester.”

Marine will travel to Hampshire with injury concerns over Josh Morse (bruised ribs) and Ashley Taylor (hamstring).
