LAST season’s beaten Wiltshire Junior Cup finalists Freshford United will join this term's competition at the second round stage after they received a bye into the last 16.

Chris Birleson’s side will be joined by five other teams from the league who were victorious in their first round ties.

One of those teams being Castle Combe who came out on top in a seven-goal thriller at Swindon Premier Division side KS Miltax who, despite leading on three occasions, suffered a 4-3 loss as a late Will Gale goal earned Combe their excellent win.

Miltax led on 18 minutes but Carl Dawson’s goal just before half time squared things up for Combe who then trailed 2-1 and 3-2. Martin Riddell restored parity and Justin Flowers tied things at three apiece before Gale bagged the win for Combe.

Calne Eagles exited the Wilts Cup at the hands of Ashton Keynes after a hard fought and sporting 3-1 defeat.

Keynes went in at half time 1-0 up after when Barnaby Chadwick scored with a neat finish after 28 minutes. This was after Ashton’s keeper Kev Horton had saved well from Calne midfielder Jordan Winter.

In second half Keynes upped their game and Calne were on back foot for long periods. However, chances were at a premium and Eagles might have even snatched an equaliser when their top scorer Adam Welch fired wide when strike partner Karl Sharratt had put him through on goal.

Ashton Keynes’ continued dominance in the second half paid off with 15 minutes remaining when their top scorer Alex Rudd fired home to double his side’s lead.

Five minutes later Calne gave themselves a lifeline when Adam Welch fired home from 10 yards after being set up by Karl Sharratt. With five minutes remaining Alex Rudd made the score 3-1 with a header from a corner kick, which finally made the game safe for the Cirencester and District league high flyers.

Hilperton United trailed 1-0 at home to fellow Trowbridge League outfit Potterne FC, but thanks to a spirited second-half showing they turned things around to claim a somewhat convincing looking 4-1 success.

Steven House saw his opener for Potterne cancelled out by Sam Stevens. Ryan Underwood fired Hilperton in front and further goals from Kieran Fareday from the penalty spot and Tom Blackman wrapped up a second win over the season for Hilperton over their guests.

Following a goalless first half at Little Marsh Magpies saw their patience finally pay off when Tom Smith finally got the better of the visitor’s keeper who to that point looked unbeatable.

After that a 20-yard thunderbolt from Sam Malone made it 2-0 and substitute Ash Whittaker sealed victory when he showed Neil Grant how to find the net with his first touch after coming off the bench.

Swindon League Premier Division pacesetters Tawny Owl FC found themselves 2-1 down at the break at home to White Horse but turned things around in the second period to claim a 4-2 win.

Tawny Owl led through an early goal but an incredible finish from Pete Ayton that saw him lob the home team’s keeper from the half way saw parity restored and a second from Ayton, which came following a lung busting run from the Horse’s ageing defender Allan Clarke, gave them a 2-1 interval lead.

After the break it was one-way traffic as Tawny Owl hit three unanswered goals to run out 4-2 winners.

The all-Trowbridge league Junior Cup battle at Leighton Sports Centre, between hosts Westbury Town who are have made an incredible start to the season and local rivals Heytesbury went the way of the home team who ran out 3-1 winners.

Westbury went in front on 12 minutes, Ryan Earny converting from the penalty following a needless challenge by Brendan Hind. Hind almost atoned for his early gaff on 32 minutes when he rattled the upright with a sweetly struck free kick.

Two minutes into the second half Heytesbury, who only had ten men on the pitch at the time, conceded a second, Dean Murden scoring to make it 2-0.

Five minutes later the unfortunate Brenhan Hind who had a game to forget put through his own net to give Westbury a 3-0 lead.

Shaun Tarr pulled a goal back for Heytesbury 15 minutes from time and although the villagers had chances to add a second, Westbury had opportunities to kill the tie off, but come the final whistle a 3-1 winning score line was good enough to take them into the second round.
