BRADFORD Town did not let their heartbreaking FA Cup defeat at the hands of higher league Chippenham Town affect them in the Premier Division as they got back to winning ways with a 3-0 success at home to Sherborne Town.

Paul Shanley’s troops had pushed Southern League side Chippenham all the way the previous weekend, only to be edged out 3-2 at Trowbridge Road.

There was a slight hint of a hangover from that loss as, despite bossing the play against Sherborne, Aaron Wilson’s early goal was all Bradford had to show for their efforts.

Shanley admitted he thought their wastefulness in front of goal would come back to haunt his side, but he need not have worried as further strikes from Sam Jordan and Mike Rimmer put the game to bed in the second half.

“We were delighted come the final whistle, we dominated from start to finish,” said Bradford boss Shanley.

“We had chances to be 4-0 up at half-time but when you are only 1-0 up you are a bit concerned as they can always nick something from a corner or a free-kick.

“We made up for that in the second half and were right at them and got the goals our performance deserved.

“We came back from the Chippenham game a little disappointed not to get a second bite at them and I was a bit worried about how to pick the boys up from that.

“But they ended up playing some terrific stuff and it’s moved us up four places as well which is important because we’ve missed a few games because of the cup.”

The victory continues Bradford’s impressive resurgence in the league and they have won each of their last three Premier Division fixtures, scoring 13 goals without conceding to climb into the top 10 in the table.

“We had a really difficult start but we have picked right up,” added Shanley.

“We have sorted out the silly little goals we were conceding and that’s three clean sheets in a row in the league.

“We work hard on that. We are quite an attack-minded team so we know the other part of our game is something we have to focus on and we’ve done really well.”

Bradford take another break from league action on Saturday as they host Brislington in the Les Phillips Cup.

Shanley added: “It would have been nice to play a few league games in a row to try to pick up a few points that could lift us up because of our games in hand.

“But we have that winning mentality and we want to win whatever game we play so we will look to go out and keep our good run going.”
