SUPERMARINE head coach Sean Millwaters believes his side have the ability to play the conditions whatever the weather.

Having seen Storm Barney blow through Swindon this week, the pitches have become muddy and heavy which will mean playing an expansive running game is probably not the wisest choice for teams looking to bag a minimum of four points.

With Melksham heading to South Marston tomorrow and a forecast for dry, but chilly conditions, Millwaters has plenty of confidence in his side.

“We have a certain style of playing no matter what the conditions are,” Millwaters said.

“It doesn’t matter whether it is wet and horrible or nice and dry. We can keep the ball nice and tight if we need to or play an expansive game.”

Melksham will arrive at Supermarine having not played last weekend due to the withdrawal of Fairford in Dorset and Wilts One North.

In their last outing, Melksham suffered their only defeat of the season when they lost 43-21, but Millwaters isn’t reading too much into that results.

“It is going to be a tough game,” the Marine chief said. “They have only lost once this season and that was to Wootton Bassett (seconds) and it was funny that their firsts didn’t have a game that weekend – not that I’m sceptical or anything like that.”

The Supermarine head coach is expecting to welcome back two players for tomorrow as he looks set to field a strong pack.

“We have got a couple of players to come back into the squad in Mike Bapiste and Connor Ward.

“I know that we are going to have to put a very strong side out against Melksham – especially in the front row.”
