HAVING seen off league leaders Midsomer Norton last weekend, Royal Wootton Bassett face an equally tough encounter when they travel to Devizes tomorrow.

In terrible conditions, Alan Low’s side did what was needed to grind out a victory at Ballards Ash and lift themselves back into the top four in Southern Counties South.

However, Bassett will not be underestimating their opponents having been on the wrong end of a 67-10 drubbing in the Dorset & Wilts Cup quarter final.

Low is expecting a much closer contest this time out, with Devizes having lost to both Marlborough and Walcot before a narrow two-point win over North Dorset last weekend.

“We didn’t put a great performance together when we went over there in the cup,” said the Bassett head coach.

“We had a bit of a mixed side there that day but they have had a couple of results that I question.

“They have looked a strong side and have lost a couple of games recently.

“It should be relatively evenly matched when we get over there but we won’t be counting any chickens early.

“We have got to focus on getting the performance right and if we can do that then we should be coming away with the result.”

Low will be assessing a few knocks from last weekend’s bruising victory but knows that he will be without full-back Dan Norcross, who has a small fracture in his shoulder and is not expected to return for at least two weeks.

“There are a lot of sore bodies from the weekend because it was a really tight and tough game,” added Low.

“We picked up a few knocks during the game and we will have to see how guys are once they have been assessed by the medical guys here.

“I am hoping to have a fully fit contingent.”
