A BATTLING all-round team effort, epitomised by a superb display of goalkeeping from Kent Kauppinen, saw Chippenham earn three points in Bedfordshire last night.

The win saw the Bluebirds remain one place outside of the play-offs, on the same number of points as Weymouth, although the Dorset side have a one-goal advantage on goal difference.

Due to heavy traffic Chippenham only arrived in Biggleswade 15 minutes before the scheduled kick-off which saw the match delayed by a quarter of an hour.

Despite four hours on the coach it was Chippenham who started on the front foot as home keeper Ian Brown was soon in action, tipping a shot from distance over the bar.

Biggleswade’s Inih Effiong put a cross from Lewis Hilliard past the post but the latter then had to leave the field on nine minutes through a leg injury.

On the quarter hour mark Waders substitute Craig Daniel saw his effort stopped by Kent Kauppinen’s feet.

Four minutes later keeper Kauppinen again saved the Bluebirds when he used his legs to block Sam Merson’s effort.

After a sustained spell of pressure Chippenham scored the all-important goal just past the half hour when Brown spilled Scott Bevan’s shot and Ashan Holgate turned the loose ball across goal for Andy Sandell to slide home.
