ALAN Low reckons a raft of players champing at the bit to prove their worth can help push Royal Wootton Bassett to great heights this season.

The Ballards Ash men opened the campaign in inconsistent fashion, recording three wins and three defeats.

However, they have found their form in recent weeks and will bid to make it a perfect November at Dorset Dockers on Saturday.

Dockers currently sit second in the table but victory for Low’s men would see them climb above their hosts in the Southern Counties South table.

Bassett’s second team are also third in their own division, Dorset & Wilts One North, and Low hopes to capitalise on the sky high confidence that is bouncing around Ballard’s Ash at the moment.

“The biggest thing for us is the competition in the squad now. We have got 25 or 30 players who are capable of playing first-team rugby at the moment and that’s a great position to be in,” said head coach Low.

“The second team have been going really well in their league too. Things are becoming a lot more settled now and we are really seeing the benefits.”

Bassett had to endure two fixtureless weekend’s in late October and early November but the break seems to have done them good and Low hopes his charges can continue that momentum.

“If we can put in a strong performance and come out with a win, there’s a chance we can move up to second in the table,” he added.

“We have played everyone in the top four in the table already and then going into Christmas we have got games against Dorchester, Frome and Bradford, who are towards the bottom.

“All the other sides towards the top have still got to play each other so we are in a very good position.”
