ROYAL Wootton Bassett manager Paul Braithwaite was left purring over a wonder injury-time strike from Harvey Scholes to snatch all three points against struggling Bracknell Town.

In miserable conditions at the Gerrard Buxton Sports Ground, the gloom was lifted by a 30-yard dipping strike from the Bassett winger that saw his side claim a 2-1 Hellenic League Premier Division success.

Steve Robertson gave the hosts the lead on 54 minutes after he kept a calm head to slot home in the scramble created by a Scholes cross.

However, Bracknell drew level when a Jamie McClurg corner hung in the air for Callum Whitty to head home with 11 minutes remaining.

Things turned ugly after the final whistle when Bracknell’s Johnnie Dyer was red-carded for foul and abusive language before having to be restrained by his teammates.

“(It was a) dirty win, simple as that,” Braithwaite said. “It wasn’t pretty. It was all about three points getting a result and recovering after last week’s nightmare (of losing 2-0 at Milton United).

“We have not played great in the first half, the second half we were improved.

“The first half, we went too route one – that wasn’t the game plan but for whatever reason, the lads adopted it.

“In the second half, they had no choice. They had to play football.

"With the wind, you weren’t going to use long balls out and I think that helped us play our own game."
