JEFF Roberts reckons Corsham Town were more than comfortable winners despite having to settle for a nervy 1-0 scoreline at home to Division 1 bottom side Bishop Sutton at the weekend.

Luke Hall-Cousins got the only goal of the game five minutes before half-time at the Southbank, with the home side already having spurned a host of chances to break the deadlock.

The victory was just Town’s second in the league since late September as they have slipped down the table and manager Roberts was just happy to taste that winning feeling again.

“We should have finished the game in the first half. By half-time we should have been out of there, we should have been about three or four up,” said Roberts.

“We had a lot of opportunities but the keeper made a few good saves. After about 40 minutes Luke managed to bury one to give us the goal we deserved.

“In the second half we came out quite well but we made a few mistakes in the last 20 minutes and I think that was down to nerves.

“They got on top of us and caused us a few problems but we held on and I think the win was deserved.

“It’s nice to get a win under our belts. We won on Boxing Day and we’ve had a good run in the Wiltshire Cup but we’ve had a bit of a poor spell so this is a nice result.”

The match was Sam Ockwell’s last for Corsham as he has joined Hellenic League Premier Division side Royal Wootton Bassett Town. He follows Levi Cox out of the door as he has also recently joined Highworth Town in the same division.

Roberts added: “It’s a shame because Levi has played for me for a few clubs but Highworth have promised him a start all the time.

“In the last few weeks we’ve brought three players in but now we’ve lost two and we’re maybe looking to bring another one in.”

Corsham are at home to Cheddar on Wednesday night and are back at the Southbank on Saturday as they entertain Radstock Town.
