LOUISE Hunt hopes she has done enough to win a place at a second Paralympics ahead of the announcement of the British wheelchair tennis team bound for Rio next week.

Wanborough’s Hunt has already had one piece of good news this month after being given a wildcard into the ladies’ wheelchair singles draw at Wimbledon and the 25-year-old is eager to make it a double celebration by having her berth in Brazil confirmed.

Hunt, who also competed at London 2012, looks likely to be on the plane to Rio as she finished the qualification period ranked 11th in the world, with the top 22 qualifying automatically.

She also recorded some of her best results of the year during a tour of Asia this month, making a first singles final at an ITF 1 Series event at the Korea Open in Seoul on June 6, losing 7-6 7-6 to Dutch world number seven Diede De Groot.

However, ParalympicsGB still have to rubber-stamp her spot in their team for the Games, which run from September 7-18, and Hunt has everything crossed ahead of that announcement on Tuesday.

“I am hopeful and in terms of my ranking, I qualified at 11 so internationally I have qualified,” said Hunt, who also claimed the doubles title at the Daegu Open on June 13 alongside American Dana Mathewson, as well as reaching the semis of the singles.

“However, nothing has been announced and there is a selection process as ParalympicsGB have to select you and I am just waiting on that.

“It was a really good few weeks in Asia and I felt like I got better and better.

“When you are on a tour that long it tends to go the other way because you get fatigued and homesick but I felt it was in reverse, which is what you want, you want to get better as events go on.

“It was brilliant and to make my first ITF 1 singles final and to get my first ITF 1 doubles win meant it was a really successful tour.”

Hunt’s doubles title in Seoul was her fourth of the year and she has also picked up two singles crowns along the way.

She is currently ranked 11th in the world for doubles and 12th in singles and is bang in form ahead of what has the potential to be a very big summer.

“Since February and March time, I have found my love on the court again and have been much happier,” she added.
