WANBOROUGH wheelchair tennis ace Louise Hunt is excited after it was confirmed that she will be part of the British Paralympic squad heading to Rio this summer.

The 25-year-old joined 10 of her fellow Team GB teammates at the Houses of Parliament yesterday as the wheelchair tennis squad was announced.

She said: “I’m really excited. I’ve had a great day. It was a great way to announce it at the Houses of Parliament.”

Hunt was also part of the GB squad for London 2012, where she was knocked out in the opening round, but admits she feels a lot more confident this time around.

“I feel more prepared for this one because I am playing well. I think it will be different to last time in London because I am towards the top of the list – I was at the bottom of the list last time. I am feeling good and a lot more confident,” she added.

The world number 11 has been playing well of late. Her recent tour of Asia saw her make an appearance at an ITF 1 Series event final at the Korea Open before losing 7-6, 7-6 to world number seven Diede De Groot.

Despite her obvious excitement about her squad selection, Hunt isn’t allowing herself to get distracted or carried away as she has three more competitions before the Paralympic Games.

She said: “At the moment, I am focussing on Wimbledon as that is only next week and then I have the German Open, then the British Cup.

“Then it is the games, so I am taking it one step at a time. Once I have done those, it’s time to focus on the build up for the games.

“I’m feeling good and I’ve been playing well. I would like to medal. That is a long-term goal of mine. I’m excited to be a part of it.

“I’m not thinking that far ahead yet because I have three events before I can really think about it.”
