PURTON will look to bounce back from a shock defeat at Westbury when they make the trip to Calne tomorrow.

Aaron Lee’s side suffered a 126-run thrashing at Wellhead Lane and will be looking to make amends for last week’s ‘poor effort’ when they head to Beversbrook.

Purton are currently sat in fourth place in WEPL Wiltshire, four places above their hosts, who will also go into the game off the back of a heavy defeat – they lost at home to Marlborough by 100 runs.

While Lee admits he doesn’t know what to expect from Calne – the two sides saw their match in May washed out – but knows if his team go into the contest over-confident, it could see them crash to another defeat.

“It’s one of the ones which was rained off. I’m not really sure what to expect from them,” Lee said.

“It’s a tricky fixture. They’re a young side but have quality and a few players who can take the game away from us.”

The two sides share the same form going into the game – one win in their last three sandwiched between two defeats.

The hosts’ last victory came a fortnight ago when they defeated Malmesbury by three wickets, while Purton completed the double over Swindon on the same day.

Lee acknowledges Calne will carry some threats but believes his side should have enough to claim the win.

He said: “I know they have some dangerous players and that they are a fielding side. It’s a game we should be confident for, “We can’t underestimate them. I know a few of our players are itching to get out there after last week’s poor effort. It is time for the top six to stand up and be counted.

“But we can’t afford to get overconfident. It should be an interesting game and I’m feeling hopeful we can get the result.”

Tom Bowler will take over the captaincy for the day, with Lee unavailable along with Adam Woolford, Sam Shelford and Elijah Samuel, while Lachlan Beggs is facing a long spell on the sidelines after dislocating his shoulder while playing for Wiltshire U17s.
