MELKSHAM Town will be helping to mark the opening of their new ground by rolling out the red carpet to a team of Manchester United legends.

Champions League winners Denis Irwin and David May headline a glittering line-up of former United stars that will be taking on Toolstation League Melksham at their new Woolmore Farm home on Sunday, October 16 (kick-off 4pm).

Lee Martin, who scored the winning goal in the 1990 FA Cup final, will also be in west Wiltshire, joined by Mike Duxberry, Clayton Blackmore, Russell Beardsmore, Peter Davenport, Andy Ritchie, Ben Thornley, Arthur Albiston, Frank Stapleton, Sammy McIlroy and Deiniol Graham, as well as Swindon-based Alan McLoughlin and Fraser Digby.

Melksham chairman Dave Wiltshire said: “We are extremely grateful to the legends of Manchester United for agreeing to come to Melksham Town.

“This is something that we never ever thought was possible and we look forward to welcoming the legends to Melksham.

“Many thanks to Fraser Digby and Darren Perrin (manager) for making this event possible.”

Tickets for October’s event go on sale on Wednesday, August 3, from the clubhouse at the Conigre and will be available to purchase until Friday, August 5, between 5pm and 8pm each day.

Melksham’s showpiece meeting with a clutch of ex-Red Devils will be all-ticket, priced at £12 for adults, £8 for OAPs and £6 for children under 16, with family tickets for two adults and two children costing £32.
