SWINDON slipped to their second successive defeat of the campaign after losing 26-15 at home to Newbury Blues.

An opening day win over Grove was the perfect start to the South West One East season for Sean Lynn’s men but since then, they have failed to win a game.

Scrum-half Connal Knott was left frustrated by his team’s performance after admitting they never really got going on Saturday afternoon.

“It was frustrating. It just didn’t go to plan for us, really, we had a slow start. We need to win our home games and we didn’t on Saturday,” said Knott “To be fair, Newbury travelled well. They had a game plan and they stuck to it, they scored when they were in the right areas. When we were in the right areas, we came away with no points.

“We got into certain positions where we should have won some points but, unfortunately, we went into a panic mode and came away with nothing.”

Despite the recent results, Knott believes there are plenty of reasons to be positive as the season is still in its infancy.

“It’s a new group of young lads and there is a lot of potential there, we just need to go back to training and re-adjust a few things,” the scrum-half added.

“As a team, we have to stay positive because there were some we can take from it. For periods of the game, our defence was outstanding.

“Maybe it was a bit of fitness - you miss one tackle, you’re on the back foot and you leak tries. When they got the opportunity, they came away with points, whereas we didn’t and that’s why we lost.” The Greenbridge Road side will look to bounce this weekend when they travel to Gloucester to face Old Centralians.

n NIGEL Hire’s Supermarine also endured a disappointing weekend as they were heavily beaten away at Corsham, with the final score reading 43-12 to the hosts.

Like Swindon, this is the second defeat in a row for Hire’s side following last week’s loss to the Chippenham seconds in Dorset & Wilts One North.

Despite starting brightly, it was soon clear which way the match would go, with the home team managing seven tries in total.

Liam Snape, Ben Russell, Hamish Milner (2), Adam Draper, Taylor Ball and Steve Bailey all crossed the line for Corsham.

Supermarine will hope a return to home comforts will aid their hunt for a win as they host Royal Wootton Bassett seconds at the weekend.
