PEWSEY Vale handed out six of the best in their 34-14 victory over Royal Wootton Bassett 2nd in Dorset and Wilts One North.

Pewsey opened the scoring after five minutes when flanker Chris Spence drove over in the corner after a forwards surge.

Some more fine forward pressure from the hosts allowed centre Jonny Mantle to bag Pewsey’s second try before Bassett reduced the arrears to 10-7 with a converted score.

With 10 minutes of the half remaining a break by centre Joe McClean cut a swathe through the visitors’ defence, drawing two defenders, and swift ball to James Haynes had a two-on-one that led to wing Toni Bloomfield dotting down in the corner, unconverted.

Pewsey’s bonus point try came early in the second period when McClean ran in from 30 metres to score between the posts. Haynes added the extras.

In the final quarter, Bassett made a rare excursion in to Vale’s 22 and managed to force their way over with a driving maul from a lineout.

Pewsey then held field position, pinning the visitors in their own half and two more tries sealed the win.

Lock Karl Crosbie ran in unopposed with a pick-and-go move from a ruck, with Haynes again converting, before touching down himself.

Corsham continued their fine form with a 64-0 success over Frome 2nd, scoring 10 tries in total to keep them top of the table with five wins from as many matches.

Meanwhile, Minety enjoyed a 27-10 win over Chippenham 2nd, however, Devizes 2nd suffered a 77-7 loss at home to Bradford on Avon.
