LAWN’S Regional League 2 squad pulled out all the stops to secure their first win of the season at the weekend, edging out Bristol side Imperial Royals 52-49.

Sally Ruddle’s side came out fired up from the first whistle and racked up a continuous run of goals in the opening minutes.

Lawn’s defensive unit of Phoebe Allsopp and Julie Harris made valuable interceptions, causing Royals to have a shaky start, although they regrouped and pulled back to end the first quarter just one shot down.

The second quarter saw Lawn unable to keep hold of their lead, despite excellent interceptions from mother and daughter duo Julie and Kirsty Harris as they finished the first half four goals down in arrears.

Royals extended that to eight goals early in the third period but Lawn stayed composed and clawed their way back to level the scores at 37-37.

The final quarter was a fight to the finish as Lawn made more valuable interceptions in the Royals’ third, leading to centre Kirsty Harris earning the player-of-the-match award as her side racked up a three-goal cushion before the final whistle.

Lawn over 35s also claimed a dominant 43-14 win over Moredon. Centre Sara Kershaw was named player-of-the-match for her brilliant interceptions and feeds into the circle as Lawn remained undefeated at the top of the table.
