SWINDON Supermarine manager Dave Webb admitted that his side came up against an immovable force as they fell to a 3-0 defeat at home to Hereford on Tuesday night.

Hereford, who many have tipped to go up following their promotion to the Southern League South & West division last season, brought a big following with them.

Mike Symons opened the scoring for the Bulls before he wrapped up proceedings from the penalty spot in the 89th minute, after Pablo Haysham had doubled the visitors lead in the 59th.

Marine boss Webb admitted that his side could learn plenty from their conquerors both on and off the pitch but is not feeling disheartened as they remain in the play-off places.

“We went into the game with a couple of excellent performances away from home and following the defeat to Evesham at home, we were desperate to try and get something,” he said.

“First and foremost, we want to get the result right on the pitch but I have to say what an evening it was for the football club.

“There were well over 800 people there, Hereford were immaculate, as you would expect from a club with their history and tradition.

“They conducted themselves correctly, on and off the field, and it was a good night for the club to host such a night that went off so well.

“On the pitch, they thoroughly deserved to win the game, they were superb on the night.

“Any team that comes to us and plays as well as that would have deserved to have won the game.

“They were excellent in every position and showed why they were firm favourites to win this league and carry on their progression up the football pyramid.

“When that happens to you, it is hard to take but you have to take your hat off to them.

“For me, they were better than Welling, they were excellent and they would have beaten anyone.

“It is a hard lesson for me as a manager and for the players to take because we really struggled to get a foot-hold in the game all evening.”

Meanwhile, new signing Jon Beeden has returned to Chippenham Town after failing to settle at the Webbswood.

In the FA Vase, Highworth Town’s game with AC London at The Elms was abandoned in the second half, with the visitors leading 1-0, after a serious injury to one of the Surrey-based players.
